Wherein Fresca the Wonder Dog Goes to the Dentist

I'm here. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.

I'm here. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.

Well, I’m back from my scrapbooking retreat and what a great time it was. It’s been hard to get back in the swing of things, though. Maybe operating on limited sleep has something to do with it. Monday I mostly putzed around. On Tuesday, the main order of business was to take Fresca the Wonder Dog to the vet to get her teeth cleaned.

Fresca is eight years old but has never had her teeth cleaned by the vet. It was time (do the words “Fish Breath” conjure up any images to you?) so we headed over to their office and arrived to find the parking lot empty. “Hooray”, I thought. “No dogs or cats for her to bark at today.” WRONG! As soon as we got inside, Fresca started with the attitude. She barked at the receptionist. She jumped on a waiting room chair, looked out the window and barked at the cars going past, entertained herself by jumping from chair to chair for awhile and then tired of that so went back to barking at the receptionist.

When her vet came out from the back, she looked him over and started giving him lip, too. “Hey, Wild Thing,” he greeted her. “What’s your problem?” With one quick movement, he scooped her up into his arms. With that, her demeanor changed from ferocious to this.

Gulp! Oh, oh!

Gulp! Oh, oh!

The vet laughed and said, “Yeah, you’re not so fierce now, are you?” Fresca just whined and looked at me with big eyes. “Let’s go get those teeth cleaned,” the vet continued and off he went with my greatly subdued baby.

Fresca was a lot quieter when she came home last night but no more “fish breath.” She’s back to barking at mailman, school buses, joggers, and assorted walkers today so I think she’s recovered. And her teeth are pearly white. Oh, and by the way, that cute and very bemused chubby baby is my 95 year old mom right after the flash went off “back in the day.”
