Of Disappearing Husbands and Good Omens

Who's Been Sleeping in This Bed?
Who’s Been Sleeping in This Bed?

This head cold lingers on although I think I am finally gaining the upper hand.  However, on the advice of my sleep apnea specialist, I haven’t been sleeping with the CPAP because my sinuses have been pretty clogged.  Early this morning, around 4:30 a.m., I woke up with a nose full and decided I might as well get up and make a trip to the bathroom.  I quietly crept out of bed and padded down the hall to the powder room.  Once that business was over, I made my way back into the bedroom, shut the door as quietly as possible and eased my way back into bed after checking the clock and deciding to take my thyroid pill so I could reset the alarm to get up at 7 a.m.   So I snuggled back into the covers and rolled over.  Just as I was drifting off to sleep I realized that it was awfully quiet on my husband’s side of the bed.

“Gee, is he dead?” I wondered, and decided to give him a little shove just to see if I could get any sound or movement out of him.  Imagine my surprise when my hand met……..NOTHING!  I sat up in bed and felt around.  He wasn’t there.  Oh boy, I figured that I must have been making quite a racket snoring without the CPAP so my guess was that he had gone into the guestroom to try to get some uninterrupted sleep.  I figured I’d wait until daybreak to check my theory out.

Sure enough, before heading off for work, my hubby confirmed that my theory had been correct.  “So why didn’t you wake me up?” I asked.  “I told you to wake me if I was snoring too loudly and I would move to the guestroom.”  He rolled his eyes.  “What do you think I tried to do,” he asked.  “Well then, you must not have tried too hard because I’m a light sleeper,” I declared.  He just looked at me.

“Come on, you know I always wake up at the first ring of my alarm,” I insisted.

“The first ring that you HEAR,” he corrected me.    Whoops, BUSTED!

So, ok….I’m a snorer and apparently, a heavy sleeper although I would never have thought the latter. Going to bed at 1:30 a.m. the previous morning could have had something to do with it since I simply had to finish the mystery I was reading. Plus let’s not forget that I’m still on cold medications. However, this morning I saw two good omens that today is going to be a very good day.  The first was when I let Fresca the Wonder Dog out to do her business.  I didn’t pay attention on the first go-round.   But the second time she asked to go out, as I was opening the door, I looked out and there was a perfect heart that she had traced in the snow.  I ran for my camera and came back to the window but her tracks had already marred it somewhat.  However, I added a little outline so you can see where it was.

The second omen was when I went to make myself a cup of coffee.  There, on the counter by the Keurig machine, was a coffee drip stain left by my husband that also looked like a little heart.  Awwww, I am loved!
